Novaex Universe

The Novaex Universe is my original science fiction IP, a fully realized galaxy spanning over 500 star systems with its own physics, politics, history, and technology. It's the setting for multiple planned games under Galactic Studio, starting with Rise of the Vanguard, but it's designed to be much bigger than any single project.

This isn't just background flavor text. Every system has coordinates on the Galactic Grid Square system I designed. Faster-than-light travel works through a detailed hyperdrive codex using Polydeuteronitric Clathrate fuel with its own regulatory framework under URSC Title 1915 § 76. There's a Republic Space Transit Phraseology Guide for how pilots actually communicate. The universe has been built to feel lived-in because that's the only way fictional worlds become real to the people experiencing them.

The Lore Architecture

Novaex operates on generational trauma themes inspired by real-world systemic history. The galaxy is shaped by the conflict between ancient Architect artifacts (dating 50 million to 1 billion years after galactic formation) and the various species that have risen in their wake. Multiple factions, each with their own technological approaches, territorial claims, and generational grudges that actually drive the larger conflicts.

The worldbuilding goes deep on the technical side too. The hyperdrive system isn't just "press button, go fast." It's a complex interaction between fuel chemistry, spatial navigation, and regulatory oversight. Hyperspace has its own physics. Ships have classification systems. There are freight lanes and military corridors and civilian transit routes, all mapped and documented.

Every detail exists to support the stories I want to tell and the games I want to build, but it's comprehensive enough to feel real when players encounter it.

The Games

The Novaex Universe is designed as the foundation for multiple game projects:

Rise of the Vanguard - An extraction shooter inspired by Helldivers 2, set in the Novaex Universe. Players work in squads to complete objectives and extract safely while dealing with the larger galactic conflicts happening around them.

Untitled Story Game - A narrative-driven experience that explores the personal side of the galactic conflicts, focusing on individual characters caught up in the larger political movements.

Galactic Vanguard - A different take on the universe, exploring the same setting from another angle and timeframe.

Each game is designed to show different aspects of the same universe, building a cohesive fictional world that can support multiple types of storytelling and gameplay.

Technical Implementation

The universe exists as both creative worldbuilding and technical documentation. The 100-system star map includes coordinates, faction control, resource distribution, and trade routes. The hyperdrive codex covers fuel specifications, jump calculations, and safety protocols. The regulatory framework includes actual legal code structures that make sense within the fictional government systems.

This level of detail serves a practical purpose: it means every game set in Novaex can reference the same underlying systems and they'll be consistent. Players who learn about hyperfuel regulations in one game will recognize how they work in another. The universe has internal logic that holds up across projects.

Creative Tools

I've also started development on Astrolabe, a universe creation tool designed to help other creators build consistent fictional worlds. And Project Gateway, an open-source platform for creators to share and develop IP collaboratively. Both grew out of the systems I developed for Novaex, basically taking the technical infrastructure for managing complex fictional worlds and making it available to other creators.

Why This Matters

Novaex represents the intersection of creative worldbuilding and technical systems design. It's not just about writing interesting lore, it's about building fictional worlds that can support multiple projects over time while maintaining internal consistency.

The universe demonstrates my approach to creative projects: start with a solid foundation, build comprehensive systems that make sense together, document everything so it can scale, and design for multiple use cases rather than just one specific application.

Novaex is the creative counterpart to ServForge. One builds infrastructure for real games, the other builds the fictional worlds those games can explore.
