Logo design for the Novaex Universe isn't just about making things look cool, it's about building visual languages that make sense within their worlds while working as actual brand assets in the real world. Each faction, organization, and company needed emblems that felt authentic to their fictional cultures but also worked at favicon size and looked professional on business cards.
These five designs represent different aspects of the broader identity work: faction emblems that tell stories about the civilizations that use them, and corporate marks that need to work for an actual game development studio.
The Game Logos
Rise of the Vanguard (Blue Arrow) - The main logo for the extraction shooter. The upward arrow communicates ascension and progress while the circular frame suggests both unity and the targeting systems that are central to the gameplay. The blue palette ties into the broader Galactic Studio brand family.
Galactic Vanguard (Orbital Planets) - The second game logo uses a vertical arrangement of colored planets connected by orbital mechanics to represent the interconnected nature of galactic politics and the different worlds players will encounter. The gradient from purple to blue creates visual depth while maintaining brand consistency.
The Faction Emblems
United Republic of Systems (URS) (Wings and Stars) - The URS emblem represents the democratic coalition trying to maintain stability across the galaxy. The wings suggest protection and freedom while the central stars represent the unity of multiple star systems under a single democratic government. It's designed to feel hopeful and aspirational.
Unity Front / Unified Galactic Authority (UGA) (Golden Eagle) - The faction that evolved from a revolutionary movement into an authoritarian empire. The eagle draws from historical imperial symbolism while the red field with gold accents communicates both the blood spilled in their rise to power and their claim to imperial legitimacy. The design reflects their transformation from liberators to oppressors.
Company Branding
Galactic Studio (Silver Compass) - The core company mark uses a compass design because it represents navigation, precision, and exploration, all themes that connect to both game development and the spacefaring setting of our games. The silver/steel finish gives it a professional, technical feel that works for business contexts while still feeling connected to the sci-fi universe.
The blue gradient and clean geometry communicate technical competence without being cold. It's sophisticated enough for investor meetings but approachable enough for gaming communities. The mark also ties into the broader .dev product family branding we use for ServForge and other tools.
Design Philosophy
Every logo follows the same principles: symbolic rather than literal, scalable from favicon to poster, meaningful within its fictional context but professional in real-world applications. The color palettes are deliberately limited, both for cost-effectiveness in production and to create visual cohesion across the universe.
The fictional emblems needed to feel like they'd been designed by the civilizations that use them, not by a 21st-century human. That meant thinking about what values each faction prioritizes, what visual languages they'd develop, and how their technology and culture would influence their aesthetic choices.
For Galactic Studio, the challenge was different: create something that works for a real company operating in competitive markets while also feeling connected to the fictional universe that drives most of our creative work.

Technical Implementation
All logos were designed in Adobe Illustrator with scalability as the primary concern. Each design works at 16x16 pixels for favicons and scales up to large format printing without losing clarity. The color systems are designed to work in single-color applications when needed, with clear hierarchies for what elements are essential versus decorative.
The faction emblems also needed to work as in-game assets, UI elements, and merchandise designs, so each one was built with multiple use cases in mind from the start.
Context and Application
These designs support both the fictional worldbuilding of the Novaex Universe and the real-world branding needs of Galactic Studio. The faction emblems appear in game materials, lore documents, and world-building assets. The Galactic Studio mark appears on business materials, product packaging, and digital platforms.
The work demonstrates my approach to brand design: start with meaning, build for function, make it work across contexts. Whether it's for a fictional space empire or a real indie game studio, good logo design comes down to the same fundamentals.
